As part of Melbourne Design Week, 100 CHAIRS celebrated the chair as a platform for experimentation, craftsmanship and creative expression — bringing together over 100 Australian creatives, studios, architects and designers to explore what a chair can represent beyond function alone.

Every piece featured in the exhibition was designed and made in Australia, highlighting the depth of local design thinking, materiality and innovation.

Victorian State Director of Schiavello Furniture, Gareth Bennett, joined Floor Talk: What A Chair Can Be alongside Design Institute of Australia (DIA) CEO Simone LeAmon and designer Helen Kontouris, whose 101 Chair is produced by Schiavello.

The conversation explored the relationship between furniture, movement and environment, and how thoughtful design responds not only to aesthetics, but to the way people gather, work and connect.

Held within the historic Abbotsford Convent, the event created a space for emerging and established creatives to share ideas, challenge convention and celebrate Australian design.
